Couples may be infertile if they have not been able to conceive after 12 months of having sex without the use of birth control. If you and your partner are trying to have a child and cannot, you may want to have an infertility evaluation. The evaluation may include: menstruation function, Pap test, urine test to measure luteinizing hormone (ovulation indicator), basal body temperature, progesterone levels and an endometrial biopsy. Further procedures may be needed such as: hysterosalpingography (HSG), transvaginal ultrasound, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Based on the results of the evaluation and tests, treatment may be needed. Infertility can often be treated with lifestyle changes, medication, surgery or assisted reproduction technologies. After your evaluation, Dr. Pastoriza will talk with you about treatment options for you and your partner.
